Watering Restrictions, from May 1st through October 1st, prohibit spray irrigation between the hours of 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. By watering during the cooler early morning or nighttime hours, less water is lost to evaporation and the lawns will benefit, too. Additional watering restrictions are in place during drought. Please see the section below. Drought prompts the need for additional restrictions to conserve water. Restrictions vary based upon the stage of drought: No Drought, Drought Watch, Drought Alert or Drought Emergency. Some of the watering restrictions that may affect you as a new resident are listed below. Assigned Watering Groups for all watering users during the drought specify days when you may use spray irrigation. To find your watering group, check your water bill, check our drought web page or call our Customer Care Center at 267-5900. Turf Restrictions restrict the planting of cool season grass such as fescue and rye in the summer. Under Drought Alert, turf in residential front yards is prohibited and is limited in back yards to 50%. Surface, building and equipment washing is prohibited unless the water stays on site or drains to the sanitary sewer. During some drought status levels, personal vehicle washing at a residence may be allowed when a positive shut-off nozzle is used. Non-residential fountains and water features are prohibited unless they meet specific exemption criteria. For more details on drought and any of the restrictions, please visit the department's Drought and Conservation web pages or refer to title 13.14 of the Henderson Municipal Code available via the City Clerk's web pages.
